Godwin Obaseki graduated from the University of Ibadan

The management of the University of Ibadan has established that Godwin Obaseki graduated from UI.  Can you imagine that? Anyway, it is no longer uncommon in Nigerian politics for politicians to dig deep into the ground of their opposing politicians’ history in order to find a cogent fault that can be used to discredit such targets. This tells us something that quite a lot is wrong with us as a nation. You wonder if all prerequisites were assessed and approved before these politicians campaign and get elected into elective offices in the first place. That’s exactly the picture here. As you may have known, there’s a battle between the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and the incumbent governor of Edo State. This battle is not unconnected with the forthcoming guber polls in the state.

Adams Oshiomhole is believed to be backing Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a governorship aspirant, for the party’s ticket. Ize-Iyamu had contested against Obaseki on the platform of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2016 but lost. In other to affect the chance of Edo’s state Governor from winning the APC primary election scheduled for June 22, Comrade Oshiomhole, had alleged that the UI first degree certificate presented by Obaseki was not authentic.

It is in the wake of this that the management of the University of Ibadan (UI) confirmed the genuineness of Godwin Obaseki’s graduation from the institution. According to Premium Times, the report in a statement issued by its Registrar, Olubunmi Faluyi, the university, Nigeria’s first, noted that the Edo State Governor graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours, Lower Division.

Ms. Faluyi in the statement entitled” Godwin Obaseki Graduated from UI” noted that Mr. Obaseki’s records of admission and graduation are intact in the archives of the University.

She said, “Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State graduated from the University of Ibadan where he studied Classics.”

“Mr. Obaseki gained admission to the University in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours, Lower Division.

“Records of his Admission and Graduation are intact in the archives of the University.

“Thank you,” the official said without providing further details.
