The former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is dead on Thursday, June 25, 2020, according to the latest news report gathered by Nigerian Newsnow. You will recall that his death was rumored just barely a week ago, but alas, it has happened. The 70-year-old who had contacted Covid-19 slipped into a coma following complications and has been on a life Support since last Friday at First Cardiology Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos. All efforts to bring him back to life by Medical professionals have proved abortive. It is a painful development that we finally lost him. His wife, Florence Ajimobi who also contacted the virus was discharged earlier from the hospital after testing Negative.
Abiola Ajimobi served as a governor for two consecutive terms from 2011 to 2019 before later contesting for the senatorial seat which he lost. He was later appointed as the acting National Chairman (South) of the ruling All Progressives Congress some days ago, a position which he never functioned in as a result of his illness.
This will, no doubt, affect the All Progressives Congress, APC, which is currently experiencing a lot of crisis. Just today, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party was dissolved in a bid to settle the crisis.
We offer our deep condolence to the entire family, the good people of Oyo State, and the APC party.
