Victor Giadom, the Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared himself as the party’s acting National Chairman after the Appeal Court confirms the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman. However, Giadom’s self-proclaimed declaration is coming after the party has already approved the Vice Chairman of the Party (South), Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the former governor of Oyo State as the acting Chairman. A statement released via their official Twitter account @officialAPCNG reaffirmed this on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, after Victor’s proclamation. Although according to reports, Ajimobi seems to be presently down with Covid-19 and is in a critical condition at the hospital and thus, the need for the party to appoint the next in command to act on his behalf. Here is the full APC’s statement:
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rose from a meeting at the Party’s National Secretariat on Wednesday affirming Sen. Abiola Ajimobi as the Party’s Acting National Chairman following the Appeal Court’s ruling affirming the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman and in line with Section 14.2 (iii) of the Party’s Constitution. Due to Sen. Ajimobi’s unavoidable absence, NWC unanimously appointed the Party’s National Vice Chairman (South-South), Prince Hilliard Etta to act on Sen. Ajimobi’s behalf, an action backed by the Party’s constitution which empowers the NWC to appoint one of its members.”
Now, there is more drama. According to Saharareporters, in a statement, counsel to Victor Giadom, Oluwole Afolabi, maintained that a court had recognised Giadom as Acting Chairman.
“He said a statement issued by the party affirming Senator Abiola Ajumobi as Acting Chairman must been have issued in error or out of ignorance of the order of the FCT High Court issued on 16th of March, 2020, by Hon. Justice S.U Bature in Suit No. FCT/HC/M/6447/2020.”
The statement went further to warn Ajimobi not to parade himself as Chairman of the party or he would face contempt of court. As a result, Giadom has reversed all decisions taken by Adams Oshiomhole’s leadership on the party’s primary in Edo State. He has also invited Obaseki, the run-away Governor from APC to return back for a fresh process.
What do you think about this drama and how it will end?
Anyway, Nigerian Newsnow wishes Senator Ajimobi a quick recovery.
